Michelle McQuade Dewhirst (b. 1973) holds degrees from Ithaca College (BM 1995) and the University of Chicago (AM 1999; Ph.D. 2002). Her music has been performed in numerous festival and university settings including the Bowdoin Summer Music Festival, Music97 and Music99 at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and the Midwest Graduate Music Consortium. Her work has been performed by the Pacifica String Quartet, eighth blackbird, horn player Kent Leslie, and the Chicago Chamber Music Collective. Upcoming premieres include Underwater Fugue for winds and percussion (commissioned by the Lee High School Band, Lee, MA) and glimmer for cello choir.
An active horn player, Michelle has specialized in the performance of contemporary horn repertoire. She has taught music theory and composition at the University of Chicago and Concordia University (River Forest, IL).
