To those composers that sound just like all other contemporary music, I say to you that you will never become significant if you don't study the great music of the past.
To those composers that sound like the music of the past, I say to you that you will never become original if you do not study the great music of our own time.
If you remain unaware of what has and is happening, you will never possess the freedom of choosing the extent that you wish to balance experimenting-with-the-new and employing-that-which-is-familiar.
To those of you that simply wish to sound the same as everybody else, you do not need to be in school.
To those of you that actually do already sound new, you do not need to be in school.
Only if you wish to be great, but realize that you are not yet, do you need enter here and join me in the search.
